Maize and grain milling

Grain in with its moisture, flour out with its yield.

A mill buys grain by the tonne with a moisture and quality result, stores it in silos, and sells flour and feed by the bag. KiloSahihi weighs the intake with the sample on the ticket, keeps silo stock live from the load cells, weighs the milling stages, and dispatches bagged product against orders, so extraction and losses are measured daily.

Intake

A lorry of maize at the gate.

  1. 1

    Gross weight

The loaded lorry is weighed against the supplier, trader or farmer group and the grain type. Small suppliers on pickups and hand carts are weighed on a platform scale with the same record.

  2. 2

    Sample and test

A sample is drawn and weighed, moisture is read and the aflatoxin and quality checks are recorded on the ticket. Above your limits the load is rejected or downgraded before it is tipped.

  3. 3

    Deductions

Moisture above the standard, foreign matter and damaged grain are deducted by the rules you set and shown on the ticket.

  4. 4

    Tip into the silo

The intake is assigned to a silo. The silo's load cells show the stock rise as the grain goes in.

  5. 5

    Tare and pay

The empty lorry is weighed out, the payable weight is final, and the supplier is paid from the same record.

  6. 6

    Mill and dispatch

Grain out of the silo, flour and bran out of the mill, and bagged product onto trucks are all weighed, so the day's extraction rate is a fact.

Mill and stores

From the farmer's sack to the retailer's truck.

Weighbridge and platform intake

Lorries on the bridge, pickups and sacks on platform scales, all against the same supplier records.

Moisture and quality sampling

Sample weight, moisture, aflatoxin and grading recorded on the ticket, with accept, reject or downgrade decided by your limits.

Silo stock live

Silos on load cells give stock in tonnes by grain type, live, with a daily balance against intake and milling.

Milling yield

Grain milled against flour, bran and germ out, per shift and per day, with extraction rate and losses.

Bagged dispatch

Flour and feed loaded against orders, bag count and net weight reconciled per truck before it leaves.

Farmer and trader receipts

Tickets with gross, tare, moisture, deductions and payable weight, printed or sent by SMS.

ERP integration

Intake, stock, production and deliveries post to Sage, Dynamics 365, Odoo, SAP or your own system.

Buying centres

Upcountry buying centres weigh on a phone with a Bluetooth scale and the purchases sync to the mill.

Works offline

The bridge and the silos record locally and sync when the connection is available.

Beyond maize

Wheat, rice, sorghum, animal feed and oilseed.

Wheat mills receive by the truck and by the container with the same sampling discipline. Rice mills weigh paddy in with moisture and rice, bran and husk out. Feed mills weigh maize, soya, sunflower cake and premixes into batches and finished feed out by the bag. Oilseed crushers weigh seed in and oil and cake out. Every one of them is an intake with a sample, a store on load cells, a process that should balance and a dispatch against orders.

  • Wheat, rice, sorghum and millet intake with moisture
  • Feed mill batching and bagged feed dispatch
  • Oilseed crushing with seed in, oil and cake out
  • Silo and bin stock live for all of them

Questions

Frequently asked

How is moisture handled at intake?
The moisture reading is recorded on the intake ticket. Above the standard you set, the software applies the deduction rule you define and shows it on the ticket; above the rejection limit the load is flagged before it is tipped.
Can it record aflatoxin results?
Yes. The test result is recorded against the ticket with who tested and when, and the accept or reject decision follows the limit you set.
How does silo weighing work?
Silos sit on load cells feeding an indicator that the software reads continuously, giving stock in tonnes live and a daily balance against intake and milling. See the bin and tank weighing page.
How are farmers and traders paid?
From the intake record: payable weight after deductions at the agreed price, paid from the record, with a statement per supplier for the period.
Does it run on our existing weighbridge?
Yes. The software reads the indicator you have. Where a scale has no indicator or the bridge needs repair, we supply and fit what is needed.
