Air cargo

Air cargo, weighed for the waybill.

Every consignment is charged on the greater of its actual and volumetric weight, and the airline's scale at acceptance is the one that counts. KiloSahihi weighs the consignment at the shed, takes the dimensions, resolves the chargeable weight, handles ULD tare and build-up, and puts IATA special handling codes on the record, so the air waybill, the handler's invoice and the acceptance scale agree.

At the shed

From the cold room to the aircraft.

  1. 1

    Consignment created

Air waybill number, airline, destination, customer or agent and commodity are entered or pulled from the booking, on a phone, a tablet or the shed PC.

  2. 2

    Loose pieces weighed

Each piece or each stack goes on the platform or floor scale and the weight is read directly. Piece count and per-piece weights are on the record.

  3. 3

    Dimensions and volumetric weight

Length, width and height are captured per line. Volumetric weight is computed at the IATA factor and compared with the actual.

  4. 4

    Chargeable weight

The greater of actual and volumetric is the chargeable weight, resolved per consignment before the paperwork is printed.

  5. 5

    ULD build-up

For built-up units the empty ULD is weighed for its tare, pallets are added as they are built, and the gross and net of the unit are recorded against the consignments it carries.

  6. 6

    Special handling and dispatch

PER, COL, DGR, AVI and other IATA codes are attached to the consignment. The weight goes on the air waybill and the manifest, and the truck leaves for the airline's acceptance with numbers that will match.

The app

One screen per consignment.

Live weight from the scale, BUP or ULD versus loose, and the consignment fields the air waybill needs.

Special handling codes are a picklist, not free text, so PER cargo is flagged as PER on every document.

What handlers and forwarders get

Built around the air waybill.

Platform and floor scales

Reads the platform, floor and pallet scales already in the shed, and the ULD scale where there is one. Nothing typed.

ULD and BUP

ULD tare, build-up by pallet, gross and net per unit, and the consignments each unit carries.

Chargeable weight

Actual, volumetric and chargeable weight per consignment, computed the way the airline computes it.

IATA special handling

PER, COL, FRO, DGR, AVI, VAL, HUM and the rest as a picklist, carried through to labels and manifests.

Labels and manifests

Piece labels, consignment labels, weight slips and truck manifests printed from the record.

Works offline

The shed keeps weighing when the link is down. Records sync when it returns.

Integration

Consignment weights post to the forwarder's or handler's cargo system and the ERP as they are finished.

Multi-shed

Several sheds, agents and customers in one dashboard, with reports per airline, per destination and per customer.

Weighbridge for the truck

Where consignments leave on a truck, the weighbridge weighs it out and the totals are reconciled with the manifest.

Perishables

Flowers, vegetables and fish that leave tonight.

Kenya's air cargo is dominated by perishables that are cut, packed and flown within a day, and a weight dispute at acceptance means a missed flight. Weighing at the shed with the same rule the airline applies removes the surprise: the exporter knows the chargeable weight before the truck leaves, the forwarder invoices on the same figure, and the ground handler's acceptance scale confirms it. General cargo, courier and dangerous goods run through the same screens with their own codes.

  • Flowers, vegetables, herbs and fish by the night flight
  • Exporters' own sheds, forwarders and ground handlers
  • Chargeable weight known before dispatch
  • Dangerous goods and live animals with the right codes

Questions

Frequently asked

How is chargeable weight calculated?
The consignment is weighed for its actual weight and measured for its volumetric weight at the IATA factor. The greater of the two is the chargeable weight. Both are kept on the record so the invoice can be checked.
Does it handle ULDs?
Yes. The empty unit is weighed for tare, pallets are added as the unit is built up, and the gross, net and the consignments on the unit are recorded. Loose cargo is handled piece by piece.
Which scales does it work with?
Platform, floor and pallet scales with a serial or network indicator, and ULD scales. Where a scale has no indicator we supply one through KiloShop.
Does it work without internet at the shed?
Yes. Weighing and printing run locally and the records sync when the connection is back.
Can it feed our cargo system?
Consignment weights and dimensions post to cargo handling, forwarding and ERP systems through their APIs as each consignment is finished.
